বিদ্যাং চাবিদ্যাং চ যস্তদ্বেদোভযং সহ।
অবিদ্যয়া মৃত্যুং তীর্ত্বা বিদ্যয়ামৃতমশ্নুতে॥
Udaynarayanpur Madhabilata Mahavidyalaya, affiliated to the University of Calcutta, was founded in 2006 under the patronage of the local zamindars to ensure the fulfilment of educational needs of the local people, specially to facilitate the female education in Udaynarayanpur, a land that bears the rich heritage of ancient Bhurishrestha Kingdom.
Keeping this in mind, our priority and continuous efforts are to improve the standard of higher education in the institution, to provide students with required exposures that they need for their holistic development and to etch our impression in society through organizing various social, environmental and extension activities.
Teaching-learning and Evaluation
The institution always prioritizes effective teaching-learning and proper evaluation process for the students. To facilitate these, we have well equipped laboratories, a library with reading rooms and internet connection, as well as N-LIST memberships for educators. Student centric methods, such as experiential learning, participative learning and problem-solving methodologies are used for enhancing learning experiences. The college makes use of ICT to facilitate teaching-learning processes. To ensure holistic development of students we have collaborations with various HEIs and agencies.
The affiliating University, i.e. the University of Calcutta conducts end semester examinations. The college strictly adheres to the University’s prescribed rules regarding holding of internal, tutorial and practical assessments. Apart from these the departments use various evaluative measures to improve students academically.
Research, Innovation and Extension
Being an undergraduate college, it does not have any authority to act as a research centre, but we have a Research and Development Cell (RND) which focuses on promoting and facilitating research activities in the institution. The college has received multiple ISBNs to publish books for different academic fields. The college authority has allocated funds to promote research activities. Teachers are always encouraged to pursue their Ph.D. and attend seminars, conferences and faculty development and refresher courses. RND and all departments play a significant role in mentoring students in research related activities.
To foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and the development of new ventures among our students our RND cell has successfully organized Incubation Day to provide students with first-hand experience in entrepreneurship by showcasing and promoting their environment-friendly, handmade products. We are planning to organize more events to nurture the ability and passion of our students and alumni.
Our NSS team effectively fulfils the main objectives of NSS i.e. 'Education through Community Service' through year-round in-house and extension activities.
Infrastructure and Learning Resources
The college has a vast green and plastic free campus with 5.55 acres of area. It offers eight core courses, B.A and B.Sc. multidisciplinary courses. With the advancement of time the college authority feels the need for more classrooms, therefore the number of classrooms has been increased in the main building and now we have 18 classrooms,3 smart classrooms, one virtual classroom and four laboratories. We have an enriched, furnished and ILMS (Integrated Library Management System) equipped library with two separate reading rooms for students and teachers. We have a big playground and Mini Indoor Games Hall for students. The college also facilitates other essential infrastructure for the students. Presently we have two capacity development and skills enhancement activities in our institution. We are going to introduce a few more value-added courses in the coming session.
Student Support System
Eligible students are benefited by scholarships provided by various government and non-government agencies. College provides free ships to economically vulnerable students. The college has Career Counselling Cell and Placement Cell to guide both current and pass-out students. We also have a registered Alumni association. The college resolves any kind of grievances through Grievance Redressal Cell. The Internal Complaint Committee has the power to resolve sensitive issues in the institution if necessary. Anti-ragging cells work to make the students aware of the negative impacts of ragging and arrange awareness programmes on this issue. The college also provides support to students in times of mental crisis.
The college which will complete its19 years in July 2025, appeared in 2nd Cycle of Assessment and Accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and upgraded from NAAC Grade C in 2016 to NAAC Grade B in 2024.
In spite of economic constraints, we are looking forward to creating more opportunities and facilities for the all-round development of our students. To attain this, we need co-operation from all stakeholders, including guardians, students, staff, alumni, academicians and well-wishers.
